HEALTH & SAFETY
A Culture of Shared Responsibility
A key takeaway from the 2025 Safety Summit was the importance
of shared responsibility. Safety on a construction site is not the sole
responsibility of any one group. Workers, supervisors, and employers
all play vital and interconnected roles in preventing injuries and
fatalities.
Participants emphasized that effective safety practices are rooted in
mutual respect, accountability, and pride in doing the job safely. When
safety is treated as a core value rather than a regulatory obligation, it
becomes embedded in daily decision making and site culture. Building
and sustaining this culture requires leadership, open communication,
and a willingness to learn from both successes and setbacks.
The insights, comments, and recommendations gathered during
the discussions were incorporated into a comprehensive summary and
recommendations report submitted to the CPO (Summary in Summer
2025 – The Generals), which informed the development of the CPO’s
next 昀椀ve-year plan.
Looking Ahead: The 2026 OGCA Safety Summit
Building on this momentum, the OGCA is proud to host the 2026
Safety Summit on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. This year’s Summit
will provide members with valuable insights into the CPO’s new 昀椀ve
year plan, with a particular focus on strategies aimed at reducing and
ultimately eliminating critical injuries and fatalities in construction.

Collaboration for Lasting Impact
At the OGCA, we 昀椀rmly believe that health and safety is not
proprietary. The challenges facing the construction industry are
shared, and meaningful progress depends on shared solutions.
Events like the Safety Summit create essential opportunities for
professionals to connect, exchange best practices, and collaborate
on innovative strategies that improve safety performance across the
sector.
These bene昀椀ts extend beyond OGCA membership, contributing
to stronger, safer construction workplaces throughout Ontario. The
collective commitment demonstrated through these efforts reinforces
the industry’s determination to reduce the number of critical injuries
and fatalities year after year.
The Safety Summit re昀氀ects our focus on continuous improvement
and collective responsibility. We invite you to join us on February 3,
2026, and be part of shaping the future of health and safety in Ontario’s construction industry. Your voice matters.
