PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
SAFETY IS OUR OBSESSION
WHY OGCA MEMBERS LEAD THE INDUSTRY IN PROTECTING WORKERS
By GIOVANNI CAUTILLO, OGCA President
Resounding Thank You
On behalf of the entire OGCA, I
want to begin this message with
a resounding thank you to each
and every member.
Both personally and
professionally, I want to acknowledge and
thank the efforts of all OGCA members
who make the industrial, commercial,
and institutional (ICI) sector the safest
construction sector in Canada—both to do
business in and to build a long, successful
career.
A
Predictable Safety, Not Luck
Year after year, our members ensure their
sites remain safe.
Every day, our members work tirelessly
to provide every worker with a safe
experience on their respective worksites.
Because of this commitment, workers
return home safely to their families. This
does not happen by chance or sheer good
luck—it is entirely predictable.
In a large and competitive industry, the safest companies will
always stand out and be sought after by both workers and
buyers of construction.

From Goal to Obsession
Because of the unwavering dedication our
members have to ensuring that no worker
suffers a critical injury or fatality on site.
In essence, our members relentlessly
pursue the goal of zero accidents. In
fact, calling it a “goal” might be an
understatement. A goal sounds like an
aspiration, whereas for OGCA members, it
is a burning desire—an obsession.
Since the OGCA’s establishment in
1939, our members have understood that
a company can set itself apart by creating
a safer environment for all workers. In a
large and competitive industry, the safest
companies will always stand out and be
sought after by both workers and buyers of
construction.
The Culture of Safety
Obsessing over every aspect of safety—
from the most obvious to the most
obscure.
This is the true personification of
our members. It starts with company
leaders and permeates throughout the
organization until safety becomes the
embodiment of its culture. And we would
be remiss not to recognize the individuals
on the front lines—those who can
communicate as easily with workers in
“boots” as with those in “suits.”
Leading the Way Through Collaboration
Many of these Health and Safety
representatives actively participate in the
OGCA Safety Advisory Committee. This
committee serves as OGCA’s link to health
and safety leaders, field professionals,
and government stakeholders such as the
Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training
and Skills Development (MLITSD) and the
Chief Prevention Office (CPO).
The synergy among these parties keeps
the OGCA Safety Advisory Committee at
the leading edge of safety. We are not only
focused on improving existing conditions
for workers but also on challenging each
other, the industry, and government to
make conditions better. Reducing the
possibility of accidents and incidents in a
