and solar energy, the platform can distinguish active work from
idle time, support utilization dashboards, integrate with tools such
as Procore, and contribute to environmental and carbon reporting.
With early hardware testing and dashboard concepts underway,
KAAS is addressing a real operational pain point with a practical
昀椀eld-ready mindset.
CORDAX from Queen’s University is focused on MEP coordination and design gaps. The team has built an automated routing
platform that generates con昀氀ict-free mechanical, electrical, and
plumbing routes directly from 3D architectural models. It accounts
for walls, beams, and spatial constraints, produces IFC outputs that
align with Revit work昀氀ows, and uses deterministic logic rather than
unpredictable generative AI. With an operational algorithm, completed paid pilots, and growing commercial traction, CORDAX offers
a glimpse into what smarter coordination could look like.

EnviroCore from Algonquin College is building a digital waste
compliance assistant for construction sites. The team is focused
on replacing spreadsheet-driven environmental tracking with
an ML-powered tool that can predict waste volumes, 昀氀ag Ontario
regulatory requirements, estimate disposal costs, and present compliance data through dashboards. With a working prototype already
able to generate predictions and regulation alerts from live inputs,
EnviroCore shows how students can turn complex compliance obligations into practical decision support for contractors.
Atlas Construction from George Brown Polytechnic is approaching innovation from a different but equally important angle:
worker wellness. The team is developing a two-layer wellness and
productivity platform that supports both workers and employers.
The worker layer includes biweekly wellness screening, personalized resources, and engagement tools. The company layer provides
anonymous wellness analytics, productivity correlation insights,
and workforce support recommendations. All worker data is
anonymized before transmission. In a sector where mental health,
substance use, stress, and stigma remain serious issues, Atlas is
building a solution that recognizes people as the foundation of
project success.
The student solutions are only half the story. Throughout the
program, industry mentors have played a critical role in helping
teams re昀椀ne their ideas, challenge assumptions, and understand
how innovation 昀椀ts within the realities of construction. Far beyond
periodic check-ins, mentors have become invested in each team's
success, offering practical insight into contractor operations, job
site challenges, decision-making, and what it takes to transform
a promising concept into a solution the industry can con昀椀dently
adopt.
This year’s mentor group includes leaders from across construction, technology, insurance, data, innovation, legal, BIM, VDC,
and startup development. David Fleet of Alberici Constructors is
serving as Lead Mentor. Other mentors include Aaron Odd and
Benjamin Joyce from Bird Construction, Julie Zulich from TESC
Contracting, Julie Zabizewski from Vestacon Limited, Marc Drumm
from American Global, Michael Rennie from Maestro Technologies,
Shaun Dawson from GEN-PRO, Cindy Kou from Negotiables, Robert
Alzuarde from Mattamy Homes, Emilio Barbero from Revit Hero,
Illia Yaroshenko from Eastern Construction, Chiara from Maple
Reinders, Ben Yoskovitz from Highline Beta, Andrew Sampogna
from OGCA, and members of the American Global team including
Chris Greene, Christopher Hichborn, and Nate Greene.
That depth and diversity of experience matters. Students are not
simply receiving feedback on a presentation; they are gaining direct
access to the knowledge, perspectives, and practical experience of
industry leaders. Through these conversations, they learn to challenge assumptions, understand risk, validate their ideas, evaluate
real-world adoption, and communicate their solutions in ways that
resonate with contractors, owners, technology partners, and future
employers.
The August 25 Finals Showcase will be the moment where that
work comes together. Attendees will see student innovation solutions 昀椀rsthand, hear feedback from industry mentors and judges,
connect with emerging talent, and take part in a broader conversation about the future of construction in Ontario.
